We are situated in the heart of Flanders, close to the cities of Ghent (30 km), Antwerp (40 km), Brussels (35 km), Mechelen and Bruges (100 km)
Ghent is easily accessible by bike (approx 1.5 hour). We regularly suggest to our guests to take the bike on the train and then visit the art cities by bike. The edges of the Schelde river offer one the most attractive cycling tracks of Flanders; you will find hereunder a small selection of the different cycling or walking tracks that are possible in this beautiful region :
- Turfputtenroute 34 km (Berlare)
- Reuzenroute 34 km (around Dendermonde)
- Scheldeferryroute (along the Schelde river)
- Rozenroute .(Wichelen)
- Floraliënroute
- Vlaanderen fietsroute LF 5 (international cycling track opposite our house)
For all these tracks maps are available. You can also prepare your personal itinerary through www.fietsroute.org or www.tov.be. Bike tracks can be loaded on your personal mobile phone.
The historical city of Dendermonde www.dendermonde.be offers many touristic attractions when it comes to culture. In December 2005 three attractions of the inner city have recently been classified under the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE patrimonium: the belfry tower, , the Saint-Alexius beguinage, the giants and the Ros Beiaard.
The historical Market is worth a visit, beside the medieval townhall, the vleeshuismuseum and the church of Our-Lady. Take a rest in one of the many friendly bars, or on the sunny terraces of this lovely square. When it comes to nature the edges of our Schelde river near Vlassenbroek and Grembergen offer very attractive (nature heritage) landscapes and a very good walking and cycling area.
At about 5 km from our guest house you can find Berlare which is a valuable recreational natural park with - as the main attraction - the Donk Lake (Donkmeer).
